Preparing for Liquid BBL: What to Know Before Your Appointment
You booked the consultation. You've thought through what you want to address. Now there's the part nobody really explains: what actually happens between booking and showing up, and what you can do to make sure the appointment — and the results — go smoothly.
Liquid BBL is a filler procedure, which means most of the prep work isn't too complicated. But a few small decisions in the days before your appointment can make a real difference in bruising, swelling, and how comfortable the whole experience feels.
What to Do in the Days Before
Skip the blood thinners you don't need. Aspirin, ibuprofen, and other NSAIDs increase bruising risk because they thin the blood. Unless a doctor has you on them for a medical reason, most providers recommend avoiding them for about a week beforehand. (Never stop a prescribed medication without talking to the provider who prescribed it.)
Skip alcohol for 24 hours before. Alcohol also thins the blood and can dehydrate you — neither of which you want going into an injection appointment.
Stay hydrated. Well-hydrated tissue tends to respond better to filler and can make the injection process more comfortable.
Think About Your Schedule, Not Just the Appointment
Liquid BBL isn't a lunch-break procedure. Swelling and bruising are common in the days afterward, and results take time to settle in as any temporary swelling resolves. If you're weighing this against a big event — a trip, a wedding, a photo shoot — talk to your provider about timing well in advance rather than booking close to the date.
Most people can return to normal daily activities quickly, but providers typically recommend avoiding strenuous exercise and prolonged sitting or pressure on the treated area for a period afterward. Your provider will walk you through the specific aftercare timeline for your treatment.
The Day Of
Wear something loose and comfortable — ideally clothing that won't rub against your hips or glutes on the way home. Come in with clean skin in the treatment area, free of lotion or makeup. And give yourself a little grace afterward: this is a procedure, even if it's not surgery, and your body deserves the recovery window it's asking for.
Setting Realistic Expectations
Prepping well doesn't guarantee a specific result, and it doesn't erase the normal variables of individual healing. What it does is set you up for the smoothest possible experience and give your provider the clearest information to work with.
